Why can’t the opening balance be imported?
On the Uvoz otvoritvene bilance (Import opening balances) page the Uvozi otvoritveno bilanco (Import opening balance) button is greyed out, clicking it showed an error, or a report after the import says the opening is recorded twice. A refused import posts nothing: the opening balance is posted as one journal entry, all of it or none of it.
An unbalanced file and accounts missing from your chart are covered in Opening balances and open items. A refusal because the period is closed is in Why can’t I post into this period?.
What the screen says
At the Review step, before you click import
Most problems show up at the Pregled (Review) step, when the app analyses the file, and the import button stays greyed out until you fix them.
An opening dated the first day of the financial year that carries a balance on revenue or expense accounts:
This file carries 1 balance on revenue and expense (class 4 and 7) accounts. This opening balance is dated the first day of the financial year, so those accounts open at zero and the file cannot be imported. Export the trial balance (bruto bilanca) again after the old system’s year-end closing entry, or, if you migrated mid-year, set the opening balance date to the day after your last day in the old system.

The screenshot shows the Slovenian interface.
Accounts that already carry an opening balance typed on the account itself: a card titled along the lines of “2 accounts already have an opening balance on the account”, with:
An opening balance can only be held in one place. These accounts carry one entered directly on the account, so importing the opening-balance journal entry as well would count each of them twice. Set them to 0 first, then come back and import.
Rows that can’t be posted are gathered on a card with a Razlog (Reason) column:
- Hkrati breme in dobro (Both a debit and a credit) or Negativen znesek (Negative amount): you picked the turnover columns instead of the closing saldo columns, or a credit saldo is entered as a negative debit.
- Konto je deaktiviran (Account is deactivated): the account is deactivated in the chart of accounts, so neither the trial balance nor the balance sheet shows it.
- Seštevek se ne ujema s konti (Total does not match its accounts): the row is a group total that doesn’t equal the accounts beneath it, which means the file is incomplete.
Rows marked Seštevek drugih kontov (Total of other accounts) and Zapre se z ničlo (Closes at zero) are not posted, but they don’t stop the import.
After clicking Import opening balance
No entry was posted. The general ledger already holds 1 posted journal entry dated before 01/06/2026. An opening balance dated 01/06/2026 already contains that activity, so posting it would count those balances twice. Cancel those entries if the opening balance covers them, or check the opening balance date.
The app can’t show this at the Pregled step, because it checks entries against the date you only enter there. Entries dated on the opening day or later don’t trigger it.
On the trial balance, balance sheet or account ledger
Some accounts have an opening balance in two places at once: on the account itself and in the opening-balance journal entry. Every report would count both, so this one cannot be produced. The opening-balance journal entry is the authoritative record. Set the opening balance on those accounts to 0.
This can only appear on data entered before this check existed, because the app no longer lets an opening balance arise in both places.
The refusals you see at the Pregled step in the wizard also come back, in their own wording, if the opening balance is imported without the wizard. Most of them start with “No entry was posted.” and list the accounts and row numbers.
Why this happens
An opening balance is one journal entry that always balances, even when the amounts are wrong. A total posted alongside the accounts beneath it, or an opening recorded in two places, doubles both sides at once, so no report shows a difference. That is why the app checks the file’s content before posting anything. An opening balance dated D states the position at the start of that day, so it already contains everything posted before D. Revenue and expense accounts start at zero on the first day of the financial year, and a balance on them means the trial balance was exported before the old system’s closing entry.
What to do
- At the Pregled step read the cards above the account list and fix the cause:
- for revenue and expense accounts, export the trial balance again after the closing entry or, if you migrated mid-year, correct the Datum otvoritvene bilance (Opening balance date);
- for an opening balance on the account, click Odpri kontni načrt (Open the chart of accounts), set Začetno stanje (Opening balance) to 0 on each listed account and save;
- for a deactivated account, reactivate it in the chart of accounts or move its balance to an active account in the file;
- for the wrong columns, upload the file again and pick the closing saldo columns.
- Once the file is fixed, upload it again and click Analiziraj (Analyze).
- If clicking Uvozi otvoritveno bilanco reports posted entries before the date, check under Temeljnice (Journal entries) which ones they are. If the opening balance already covers them, they have to be cancelled, not reversed: after a storno the original entry stays posted and the import still counts it. The entry’s page doesn’t offer cancelling a posted entry, so contact support. Otherwise correct the Datum otvoritvene bilance.
- Click Uvozi otvoritveno bilanco.
If you can’t fix this yourself
Whether an account should carry an opening balance or was a total in the old system is visible in the export file and in the previous system’s chart of accounts. If you don’t know which state the trial balance was exported from, ask whoever kept the books before the switch.
The app never picks which of two opening balances is right. If one account carries a different amount on the account and in the opening-balance journal entry, decide which one holds before you set the other to 0.
